      Book  Penguin publish an abridgement, The Rise of the Roman Empire, which is useful but focuses more on Rome’s wars with the north African city of Carthage and less on the Greek world/rest of the Mediterranean.

      Book  Oxford World Classics also has a very readable translation with good introduction and notes, but it only includes books 1 to 6 and book 12 (of the total 40 books).
